Let's Go

 Back to the classics:

  1. What is the deal with my cleric's religion? No clerics, but certain auspicious places (standing stones, waterfalls, highest peaks, deepest pits) allow the casting of clerical spells. Otherwise, worship ancestor spirits or a monster or an idol or one of the indifferent deities of the cosmos as a religion.
  2. Where can we go to buy standard equipment? Every settlement has the basics (stakes, poles, oil, torches, etc), but only the villages and citadels in the western grasslands bordering the Iron Towers can do consistent metalwork (thieves' tools, spikes, crowbars).
  3. Where can we go to get platemail custom fitted for this monster I just befriended? Make it yourself out of other monsters you butchered. Or go to the citadels in the hills where metalwork is done. Or get hooked up in the terrible slave-city to the north that has moved beyond the stone age.
  4. Who is the mightiest wizard in the land? He of The Earth, in a citadel perched over a crater lake. This sorcerer desires naught but knowledge and advocates literacy for his subjects.
  5. Who is the greatest warrior in the land? The Duchess of Dreamers, who for all her martial prowess leads but three dozen amazons from the harness of her terrible robotic suit.
  6. Who is the richest person in the land? The Ravager Upon the Piercing Throne, who has not only piles of gold but holds thrall over a population greater than any other and horrific servitors besides.
  7. Where can we go to get some magical healing? Apothecaries and weird-women can brew restorative draughts, shadetree sawbones can set broken limbs, but true supernatural healing comes from a rumored shrine of pacifists in the dry hills of the northeast.
  8. Where can we go to get cures for the following conditions: poison, disease, curse, level drain, lycanthropy, polymorph, alignment change, death, undeath? Hit up an apothecary for poisons and disease. Curses can be transferred between people but seldom broken. Level drain is permanent unless you kill the thing that drained you. Lycanthropy and polymorph are unfortunate mutations. Alignment change is only a concern in the final days. Death and undeath are two sides of the same coin, turn to sorcery or high technology to return people back to the living.
  9. Is there a magic guild my MU belongs to or that I can join in order to get more spells? Sorcerers are cruel and jealous, you could apprentice yourself.
  10. Where can I find an alchemist, sage or other expert NPC? Every village has something to offer. Seek the ancient twins in the grasslands for high alchemical compounds, and the secret society whose mastery has infused sorcery into tattoos.
  11. Where can I hire mercenaries? Fighter-led citadels have mercenaries to be led to glory and death.
  12. Is there any place on the map where swords are illegal, magic is outlawed or any other notable hassles from Johnny Law? Autocrats rule every group, settlement, citadel, or city. Each makes their own ridiculous decrees, but you won't be bothered for being armed. It's cavemen with laser guns.
  13. Which way to the nearest tavern? A tavern could be as humble as asking for a pull of whiskey, someone's cottage in a settlement, an established drinking pit, or as elaborate as the Pleasure Palace of Alabaster in the middle foothills.
  14. What monsters are terrorizing the countryside sufficiently that if I kill them I will become famous? The parasitic Spawn torment the world but worst of all beasts are the Leviathans.
  15. Are there any wars brewing I could go fight? The settlements in the southern grasslands plot cattle (actually dinosaur or giant insect) raids and skirmishes, but full-blown war only simmers.
  16. How about gladiatorial arenas complete with hard-won glory and fabulous cash prizes? A foothills village boasts of their champion, who cannot be bled and who never sleeps and whose fists can break stone.
  17. Are there any secret societies with sinister agendas I could join and/or fight? It is whispered that anyone with auspicious enough psionic abilities are contacted in their dreams.
  18. What is there to eat around here? Monster meat, edible slime, whiskey, lotus powder, hydroponic-grown alien starches, baked mosses, fried insects and mushrooms.
  19. Any legendary lost treasures I could be looking for? The many ages that have come before have left artifacts with unspeakable shapes and mysterious powers. Foremost is the Crown of The Sun, a work so legendary it is said to enthrall entire stars to the will of the wearer.
  20. Where is the nearest dragon or other monster with Type H treasure? Huge, mutagenic leviathans drift along the upper atmosphere; some have been shot down by alien anti-air defenses, others settle in torpor on the Holy Mountain and discharge the parasites that riddle their flesh.
